L’autre point à soulever sur l’ampoule DEL est la qualité de l’éclairage. C’est ce que mesure d’une part l’IRC, indice de rendu des couleurs et d’autre part la température de couleurs. Pour l’IRC, la technologie LED permet aux ampoules de bénéficier d’un IRC allant jusqu’à 98 (sur une échelle de 0 à 100). Quant à la température de couleurs, les ampoules DEL sont disponibles avec des températures de couleur allant du blanc très chaud (1700K), pour l’usage domestique, du blanc neutre à 4000K comme la lumière du jour et blanc froid (6500K) pour les bureaux, entrepôts, parkings …

Est-ce qu’on peut utiliser un variateur d’intensité ?

La réponse est oui et non. Les toutes premières ampoules DEL ne pouvaient pas encore être utilisées avec un variateur d’intensité. Mais de nos jours, la plupart des ampoules à LED sont dimmables. Les dernières évolutions ont fait que ces ampoules supportent très bien les variations d’intensité. Pour savoir laquelle est à puissance variable, il suffit de vérifier les caractéristiques sur l’emballage ou sur le descriptif en ligne.

Est-ce que ces ampoules sont adaptées aux luminaires déjà existants ?

Oui, presque toutes les ampoules DEL du moment existent avec les mêmes dimensions et culots que les modèles halogènes ou à incandescence. Donc si vous voulez remplacer vos anciennes ampoules A19 par du LED, vous trouverez sans problème le modèle LED équivalent. C’est juste cette question de l’équivalence qui va poser difficulté puisqu’avec les ampoules LED l’intensité lumineuse ne dépendra plus de la puissance en Watt consommée mais du chiffre en Lumen inscrit sur l’emballage de l’ampoule à LED.

Est-ce que ces ampoules chauffent ?

La réponse est non, ou tout du moins elles dégagent bien moins de chaleur que les ampoules classiques. Ce qui déjà limite les risques de brûlure. Cela vient aussi du fait que le rendement lumineux de ce type d’ampoule est bien meilleur que celui des ampoules à incandescence ou halogènes. Ce rendement qui est la quantité de lumière émise pour 1 Watt d’électricité consommée est de l’ordre de 100%. Ce qui signifie que toute l’énergie électrique de l’ampoule est convertie en lumière et aucune énergie n’est perdue en chaleur par conduction.

Est-ce que les ampoules DEL sont sans danger pour la santé ?

Dernier point à garder en tête, les ampoules DEL ne présentent aucun danger pour la santé. En effet, elles ne contiennent ni gaz ni autre polluant ou produit toxique que les modèles fluocompactes renferment. De même, une ampoule DEL émet très peu d’UV et n’émet aucun rayon infrarouge. Par ailleurs, la lumière émise est stable, ne demande pas de délai d’adaptation et diffuse une lumière d’intensité fixe en tout temps. Ce qui limite largement les fatigues oculaires.
